From my travels overseas, I have seen some amazing ancient ceramic tiles. Some of these tiles are thounsands of years old - from Marocco, Spain, Portugal, Mexico and more. I recall visiting Alhambra in Granada, Spain Which is one of the best preserved palaces in the world. It is also a testament to Islamic architecture, in particular to the beautiful tiles that were used throughout the site. The interior is decorated with exquisite tile work, all painstakingly handmade and hand painted. There are whole rooms with floors, walls and ceilings covered with beautiful tiles and even the doorways are lines with tiles in geometric designs. The tile artisans produces true works of art and these are so well preserved that they are still enjoyed today.

Alhambra is a major tourist attraction in Spain and millions of people have made the visit from all around the world to see this great display of beautiful tiles. I have some customers who have been so enthralled by the use of the tiles at Alhambra that they have been inspired to create special rooms and spaces within their own homes.  For example Norman / Moroccan / Spanish tiles featured across bathroom walls and floors to create a hammam. Or an outdoor area becomes opulent simply with the use of these handmade tiles as a feature wall or covering a water feature. A tiles mural is used as a feature on a kitchen splash back.
