Encaustic Tiles
Not everyone has heard of Encaustic Tiles but if you have, you would know that they are a wonderful tile with so much character. Our Encaustic Tiles are handmade using centuries old technology developed by Artisans in France. Old World Tiles gets our Encaustic Tiles made in Vietnam because this was once a French Colony and the Vietnamese people have learnt and know how to make the very best Encaustic Tiles. There is so much French architecture to be found in Vietnam – beautiful buildings with beautiful tiles reminiscent of France. Like Sandstone, Encaustic Tiles are made by the compression of sand and material to form a very dense, heavy and hardwearing tile. The whole process is quite labour intensive but simply explained the process involves pressing the cement, painting the tile in the individual mould and then drying. The tiles are typically used for floors, although are also used on walls, for example as features or splashbacks. Many of our clients use these tiles for bathrooms, laundries and patios. Once the tiles are laid, they are very durable and the feel of the cool matt tile underfoot is amazing.
There are so many different colours and designs to choose from and we are able to custom make tiles for you. We can even get octagonal or lantern shapes tiles made. For example, we have a client who has requested an Encaustic Tile design with specific colours and with a Terrazzo finish. To achieve this Terrazzo finish, the artisans sprinkle marble chips after painting to create an exquisite finish. (https://oldworldtiles.com.au/encaustic-tiles/terrazzo-encaustic-tile)
Importantly, the factory where our Encaustic Tiles are made has excellent conditions for their workers.
